Amazing book
I first read this book about two years ago and have read it multiple times since then. It is an amazing story, very well written, and it flamed my first desire to visit Wales. Teens, young adults, and adults all love this book and I highly recommend it to everyone. I hope you enjoy it!

Full of mystical magic and excitement
This is a wonderful and exciting book by a wonderful author. She is also a wonderful person. But it does run in our family. Rebecca and Tolanda.

A really good mystic mystery adventure story
This excellent novel for young adults is set in Wales. A young American girl spends a term studying abroad at Carmarthen College and through a series of strange, supernatural events discovers a mysterious secret about her own family that puts her in danger. Highly recommended!

Dixie : A Personal Odyssey Through Events That Shaped the Modern South
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (25 September, 2001)
Author: Curtis Wilkie
Average review score:

Best of the "American South" Studies
For anyone searching for indepth studies of the postwar American South, this is absolutely it. Wilkie brings the keen eye of a child of the South to the descriptions of life in his home town, county, state and region, and uses his journalist's skills to make it all vibrant and immediate to readers of any geographic locale. He does not pull punches in his frank descriptions of what was true in the South's postwar decades, nor does he excuse his own participations and prejudices as he passes through his own changes on a long journey to understanding the nation's necessary reassessments of civil rights and collective wrongs. While it helps to have a prior knowledge of the Civil Rights movement in this country, and a sense of how the Dixiecrats became Republicans, this book is accessible to any reader of American history and social change.

What a Southerner Won't Tell You
Having been born in Mississippi and having defected to the West at the age of 23, I picked up Wilke's book to get in touch with my "Southern roots". Wilke's account of his roots and his involvement with the civil rights movement is more than any of my high school and college history books could ever explain.

Progressive Curtis Wilke made me realize I should be proud of my heritage but also aghast at what caused all of these atrocities and racist views. The South's dirty laundry is something that needs to be acknowledged in order to overcome the past.

Dixie--Better than the Chicks
Curtis Wilkie's Dixie is described as a "personal odyssey"--that it is. It is a terrific account of growing up in the Old South and being a part of the making of the New South. It is howlingly funny in parts and chillingly thoughtful and full of insight. Any person northerner or southerner will find this book rewazrding.

Texas Millionaire
Published in Hardcover by Gale Group (February, 2003)
Author: Dixie Browning
Average review score:

One of Dixie Browning's most enjoyable books!
The warmth of these characters drew me in from the start. I loved both the hero and heroine, and adored the secondary character, Miss Manie. I especially liked the heroine who was smart and sassy and very honest. Good book to relax with for an evening.

Warm, witty tale told with a Southern accent.
An unlikely heroine, a storybook hero, TEXAS MILLIONAIRE has all the elements I love in a romance. Glitz and glamour are only bit players. This is a character-driven story, one I think you'll enjoy if you like warm, witty stories told with a strong Southern accent.

A terrific book for an afternoon by the pool!
Hank is an attractive Texas hero, and Callie is a refreshing young woman. Her Aunt Manie is a meddler of the most entertaining variety. This book has lots of surprises. I loved it.

There Follows a Mist
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (October, 2001)
Author: Dixie Norton
Average review score:

A Book That Should Be On Oprah's Recommended Reading List
"There Follows a Mist" is one of those books you just don't want to put down. Fortunately, it does not go on forever and is an easy read. However, being short, does not take away from the powerful message of the author that we live with life's choices. It is apparant Ms. Norton has real insight and understanding of Southerners in particular and mankind in general. It is well written and with adequate promotion, I believe it has the potential for being right up there on the best seller list with John Grisham. I look forward to more novels from Dixie Norton.

Good Read
Excellent story, written in a style that is concise without being terse. Well thought out characters, and a plot that J. Grisham would die for. The reader finds himself placed in Johnson era Georgia, with a family that takes you from joy to dispair and back, filled with anticipation of the revelations the next page brings.
The only thing this book lacks is an expensive leather binding

This one is a real "Classic"
I originally read this book because a friend's aunt wrote it. Boy was I in for a surprise. The book is English Lit 101 material. It reminded me of James Albee's "Death in the Family" and a little of Tennessee Williams (southern flavor) and Steinbeck (Sweet Thursday). The plotting is TIGHT! Character development is superb. Even the editorial work is top notch. I picked up the book to look it over and put it down when I was finished - all in one sitting.

This is a Southern story placed in the 30's or 40's, but it could just as easily have been today. The setting is an old, burned out southern plantation that has "ghosts". There is a complex interaction among the characters that are primarily members and friends of the same family all the way through. Transitions into past events that clarify what is happening currently in the book are seamless. The story just grabs you up and pulls you along. You are completely engaged emotionally with the characters - you love some and hate others. Don't expect the author to have given away the ending ahead of time - it just doesn't happen. Expect to be entertained, enthralled, outraged, drained and uplifted.

All About the Dixie Chicks

Author: Ace Collins

The Chicks
I'm not the kind of person who likes country music, but when I heard the Dixie Chicks on the radio, I was pleasantly surprised at their music. So I bought this book and it is very interesting to read about all the things the Chicks have been through. They are strong, persistent, and fun loving women that gave modern country music a new look.

Beckett's Convenient Bride (Beckett's Fortune)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (01 January, 2003)
Author: DIXIE BROWNING
Average review score:

Another Winner from Dixie Browning
This book definitely stands alone. It's got everything--family relationships, jazzy dialog, sex, and humor that borders on the slapstick, but it never quite goes over the line. The characters, even the bit players, come alive and you're with them every step of the way. In a word, I'd call Beckett's Convenient Bride terrific!

THE BEST OF BROWNING'S BECKETT SERIES!
A murder, a mystery, lots of humour, and the undiluted animal magnetism between Carson Beckett and indepenent Kit Chandler Dixon make this book difficult to put down after just one chapter. I didn't read long before both Carson & Kit were fully-fleshed 3 dimensional characters. Colorful, artistic Kit, with her lovely Ladybug (VW) and red hair settles into a quiet life on the intercoastal waterfront, writing and illustrating children's books. Carson Beckett, a detective recovering from injuries, uses his time off to travel to NC to find the remaining Chandler heir and settle a generations-old debt. When Kit witnesses a murder, her life is tossed upside-down and an encounter with Beckett grows into an unexpected, unavoidable romance. I enjoyed this book.

A Bride for Jackson Powers (Desire, 1273)
Published in Paperback by Silhouette (March, 1900)
Author: Dixie Browning
Average review score:

This is a great book!
I was tired and stressed, and I picked up this book. Within the first pages I was captured, taken away into an amusing and warm tale. Jackson and Hetty, all the characters are so real. The story is very much like a really good romantic movie. Loved it.

A SUPER READ!
A BRIDE FOR JACKSON POWERS is the perfect antidote for winter blahs, especially after the recent snow and ice storms. It could have happened to anyone, but when it happens to the kind of people Browning is famous for creating, it's fun--pure, unadulterated fun!

Hurry and write another book Dixie, Spring hasn't sprung yet.

From a Tar Heel fan who would rather read than fly.

A Dixie Farewell: The Life and Death of Chucky Mullins

Average review score:

A Dixie Farewell: The Life and Death of Chucky Mullins
This is an excellent book. It tells the true story of a college football hero. This book exudes the inspiration, thoughtfullness, and love that Chucky shared with so many people before his passing.

A Wonderful Story About Character, Courage and Determination
A book really comes alive when it's about someone you knew. Mr. Woody did a wonderful job in bringing out Chucky's finest qualities: courage, determination, friendliness, and his ability to overcome lifes obstacles. And, since this book was about more than just Chucky and tells a wonderful life-story, it adds meaning and another dimension to the great person I went to high school with. This book should be required reading for all high school students, especially athletes. Thumbs Up, Mr. Woody!

Excellent, humorous in spots, war of wills.

Well, Cleo is not as bemused with Harrison's practiced lines, handsome looks for affection. In fact, she becomes the biggest challenge Harrison has ever faced--Wall Street included!
Great story!
